Friday, August 14th

Morning / Afternoon:

  • Depart Home Cities 

  • Scattered Arrivals into Ketchikan International Airport (KTN)

    • Airport Greeter & Private Transfer (5-10 min) to The Cape Fox Lodge and check-in (3:00pm)

Evening:

  • Group Dinner at local restaurant​​

*Overnight Cape Fox Lodge, Ketchikan, AK

Dress -​ Day/Evening: Comfortable Travel Attire and a warm light coat or insulated jacket for cooler nights.

Saturday, August 15th

Morning:

  • 5 AM - 5:15 AM Coffee / Lodge Check Out

  • Transfer to sea plane dock

    • Floatplane transfer across Alaska's famed Inside Passage / Tongass National Forest​ (40 minutes)

  • Boat from Craig to Noyes Island (35 minutes)

  • Check-in at Steamboat Bay (breakfast available)

Afternoon:

  • Luxury Alaska fishing

  • Lunch & drinks on-board or at the lodge

  • Enjoy on-site activities

    • Kayaks, nature walk/hike, soaking up the view from a hot tub, massages, big screen TV, game tables, cigars, and open bars with premium wines, beer & spirits.

Evening:

  • 5 PM - 6PM Cocktail / Appetizer Hour

  • 6 PM - 8PM Dinner prepared by onsite chef

*Overnight Steamboat Bay

Dress - Day: Comfortable travel clothes with layers, such as a fleece or light sweater, long pants, and a waterproof jacket. 

Evening: Smart casual layers like long-sleeved shirts, trousers, and a warm light coat or insulated jacket for cooler nights.

Sunday, August 16th

Morning:

  • 5 AM - 6:30 AM Breakfast at The Residence

  • 6 AM - 7 AM Depart dock for a full day of Luxury Alaskan Fishing​ (or choose optional activities*)​

Afternoon:

  • Lunch & drinks on-board or at the lodge

    • Fishing spots are only 10 to 20 minutes offshore

  • Boats Return from fishing by 4:30 PM

    • Steamboat Bay processes & vacuum-packs seafood, stores in wet lock boxes and freezes until departure​

Evening:

  • 5 PM - 6PM Cocktail / Appetizer Hour

  • 6 PM - 8PM Dinner prepared by onsite chef

Overnight Steamboat Bay

*Enjoy on-site activities:

Kayaks, nature walk/hike, soaking up the view from a hot tub, massages and wellness treatments, big screen TV, game tables, cigars, and open bars with premium wines, beer & spirits.

Dress - Day: Practical outdoor layers suitable for boating, such as a moisture-wicking base layer, warm mid-layer, waterproof jacket, quick-dry trousers, non-slip deck shoes or waterproof boots, plus a hat, sunglasses, and light gloves for wind and spray.

Evening: Smart casual layers like long-sleeved shirts, trousers, and a warm light coat or insulated jacket for cooler nights.

Monday, August 17th

Morning:

  • 5 AM - 6:30 AM Breakfast at The Residence

It cannot be transferred to another person.

Trip Communications & Documents

Updates and communications about your trip will be delivered via email up until your trip. If you have any questions, please email Allison Donnahoe at allison@hooplatravel.com. If you are not receiving any communications, please be sure to check that your email is correct on your registration and to check your spam folder. Final trip documents will be sent approximately two weeks prior to the August 14th departure.

Traveler’s Guide to Alaska

In August, Alaskan daytime temperatures are on average a high of 63°F and a low of 51°F.

All tips, taxes and gratuities are included.

Alaska operates on Alaska Daylight Time (AKDT), which is UTC-8. In August, Ketchikan is 4 hours behind Eastern Time and 1 hour behind Pacific Time. When it's 8AM in Ketchikan, it's 12 Noon in New York and 9AM in California.   

Steamboat Bay provides designer all-weather gear, including slickers and boots.  Premium sport fishing equipment is also provided.

We recommend packing lightly with the essentials listed below as you will bring home your vacuum packed sealed seafood as part of your

checked luggage on your return.

  • Driver's license (for fishing license)

  • Comfortable travel attire

  • Clothes that can be layered - Examples include short and long-sleeved shirts, jeans or khakis, lightweight water-resistant jackets or windbreakers, warm wool sweaters, fleece pullovers and hats such as knit beanies or baseball caps, hiking boots and extra socks

  • Bathing suit for hot tub or sauna

  • Sweater / jacket for evenings

  • Ball cap for sun protection, sunglasses (polarized if possible)

  • Toiletries

  • Personal medications, sunscreen, insect repellant and motion sickness remedy if needed

  • Your favorite cigars, books, music, etc.

  • Wildlife or bird watching field guide

  • Small backpack or crossbody to bring on the fishing boat

  • Flashlight or headlamp

  • Wi-Fi compatible laptop, tablet, smartphone and/or mobile device

  • Chargers / portable battery pack

U.S. Coast Guard trained and licensed, they captain your heated cabin cruiser, find the fish, offer instruction on Alaska-style technique, bait your hook, and help bring in the catch—from king and silver salmon to halibut, lingcod, and rockfish. Through their expertise, our guides ensure that your luxury Alaska sport-fishing experience is exciting, rewarding, safe, comfortable, and customized to individual preference.

Steamboat Bay features guided saltwater sport fishing aboard custom-built North River cabin cruisers outfitted with top gear and state-of-the-art marine technology.

For after fishing enjoyment, guests may book a sports massage/wellness treatment* explore Steamboat Bay via kayak, on a nature walk, or by soaking up the view from the hot tubs conveniently located on the wraparound decks of the Lodge and the Residence.  Diversions also include a big-screen TV, game tables, cigars, and open bars with premium wines, beer and spirits.

Personalized service is a mainstay at Steamboat Bay.  Just let your guide know your preferences for on-water activities: all-day fishing, a half-day of fishing, a half-day of whale watching, a half-day of exploring...Your stay is yours to invent.

*Guests may book individual 60-minute massages during their downtime while on-site for an out-of-pocket cost of $160 per massage plus gratuities, with up to three (3) massages available per day.  Guests may book on-site or email Holly@SteamboatBay.com.

Reimbursement Policy  

For participants who choose to book their own flights, reimbursement will be issued after the program concludes and will cover only the cost of an economy-class flight on the official program dates from your designated city or market. It is required to submit an itemized receipt and a copy of your flight itinerary to Hoopla Travel for reimbursement processing. Any additional costs for upgrades, such as Economy Plus or other premium seating, are not eligible for reimbursement.
